West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics (WMAAA) is an award winning K-8, public school academy. It was chartered in 1996 by Grand Valley State University. Our mission is to provide outstanding education through the integration of the arts that encourages the success of each child academically and through creative expression.
Belief Statements
• We believe that students learn best when they are actively engaged in their own learning style.
• We believe the arts address different learning styles and nurture the acceptance of diversity.
• We believe that students learn best when they apply their knowledge to real life situations.
• We believe that an education in the arts is essential for the full development of each child.
The foundation for the learning environment at West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics is the integration of arts with academics. We strive to provide balance between our arts and academic programs. Our educational goal is to make the learning process more humanizing, challenging, inspiring and productive. The arts provide students with opportunities to use their knowledge in these capacities. When arts are integrated with academics then learning becomes more relevant to everyday life.
WMAAA was recognized as a top 10 educational institution for best practices in arts education by ArtServe Michigan, an independent arts advocacy organization. The Academy also received the Summit Award for "Best Charter School in Michigan" by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies.
