Visual Arts
Kindergarten-fourth grade visual art overview
All kindergarten through fourth grade students will explore a variety of subject matter using an array of art materials including graphite, ink, colored pencil, tempera paint, watercolor, clay, charcoal, pastel and collage. The visual arts curriculum is aligned with the language arts, science, social studies and math curriculums that are taught in the classroom. This process of supporting and enhancing the academic curriculum using the arts is called arts integration. In addition to their weekly arts integration time, each semester, third and fourth graders have the opportunity to choose an additional art class for an extra two periods per week. During this time, third and fourth grade visual art choice students explore a variety of visual art techniques, materials, artists and art movements. These students also enjoy designing the set for the holiday musical.
