My name is Mr. Bretz and I am the 7th and 8th grade science teacher. I have been here at the academy for 7 years (this will be my 8th year here); prior to that I worked for Hudsonville public schools for 2 years as an instructional aide and as a 7th grade science and English teacher. My undergraduate work was completed at Wayne State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science Education with a minor in English, and currently I am working towards my masters in science education at Western Michigan University. I am always excited about teaching science here at WMAAA and I bring that enthusiasm to the kids. Throughout the year, students will develop a sense of the scientific method through research, discussion and labs conducted in each unit. The topics of discussion come from a variety of fields of study, such as chemistry, astronomy, geology, physics, electricity, magnetism, and biology and Earth science. Science here at the academy is a multifaceted approach, including notes, book readings, in-class discussions and many hands-on activities to reinforce particular concepts. In order to reinforce each concept, lessons are designed to follow WMAAA curriculum, as well as guidelines set up the state of Michigan.
